A few years back…quite a few years back…I put together volunteer caddies for a Celebrity Golf Tournament. A gala of actors from day time dramas.
My older son agreed to participate. The golf carts were all lined up, as he put the golf bag of his charge for the day in the back.
I grabbed my camera and readied it for a pose. The golfer said,
“Why are you taking a picture of me? I’m no celebrity!” He was slouched over the steering wheel of the cart as he spoke, looking like he would rather be in a million other places.
Just then, my son jumped into the seat beside the golfer.
“You will be riding with my son all day,” I smiled.
The golfer double blinked, then moved in closer to my son and smiled, waiting for the shot.
As they drove away, my son turned his head to look at me. I knew that look, “I got this, Mom.”
In Reflection
As I watched them drive away, I realized I had it all wrong.
I thought the older would mentor the younger. He had a whole day to speak into this teenager’s life. But then I remembered that my son had been able to “read hearts” from a very young age. It was he who was called that day to live his purpose and mentor the older.
Challenge
What about you? Do you make the most of every opportunity to speak into the lives of those the Lord has put in your circle…for THAT day? Do not assume you have nothing to offer. Be quick to listen and discover why the Lord has put this person in your life TODAY. You just might find you have been given the opportunity to change a life for HIM.
